About Me
Sewing has been part of my life since early childhood. My mother first taught me to sew by letting me watch and learn as she worked. She sewed constantly, making clothes for me and my 7 brothers and sisters, doll clothes, rugs and quilts. In those days sewing was a necessity. Now it is one of the great joys of my life.
I bought my first sewing machine on my 16th birthday. My parents wanted to teach my twin brother and me about credit, so they helped us each with loans. Steve bought a motorcycle, and I bought a sewing machine – a Husqvarna Viking. You can guess which one got the most mileage. The motorcycle lasted 3 years. My Husqvarna lasted 15!
My high school sewing teacher helped me land my first job doing alterations at a department store in town. I worked all through high school, honing my skills, and my love for sewing grew more and more. After that, I sewed mostly for myself, and for family and friends. One friend had a rock band, and I custom designed her stage costumes to show her off in her essence, silky, short and sexy!
Soon, other kinds of sewing caught my attention. I saw my first Quilt Art show, and I was hooked. The colors, fabrics and rich designs sent my imagination soaring. I knew that sewing could be anything I wanted it to be. My designs could be whatever my heart desired, and my artist’s palette filled with fabrics that inspired my essential self.
Now when I’m designing clothes, I am creating art. And art is an outward expression of the true self. My desire is to create clothes that express through color, fabric, line and feel, who each person is from the inside out. When you come to me for a design, I will create a garment that is Essencially You!
